Friday, March 28th

4:00pm - Medieval Studies Program Visiting Speaker: Albrecht Classen, "Shame Culture, Sexuality, and the Naked Body in the Middle Ages." CLAS 217 (Stern)

4:00pm - History Graduate Student Happy Hour, Nathan Hale Inn

4:45 – 6:00pm - Harlem Renaissance Revisited Conference Plenary Session: ‘"Dr Goddess!: A One Woman Show" Capturing the Spirit of the Renaissance from Harlem to HomeGurl,’ Featuring Kimberly Ellis." Rome Ballroom, South Campus

6:15 – 8:00pm - Harlem Renaissance Revisited Conference Plenary Session: Allyson Nadia Field, Harvard University. "Filming Uplift and Projecting Possibility: African American Cinema and the Harlem Renaissance," including the feature film, Oscar Micheaux’s Body and Soul (1925). Student Union Theater

 

Saturday, March 29th

10:30am - Gather in the Lounge, lower level of Wood Hall.

11:00 – 11:45am - Tour of campus with current grad students

12:00 - 1:00pm - Lunch with history graduate students and faculty in Wood Hall lounge

1:30 - 3:00pm - Roundtable Discussion: Peter Baldwin, Fiona Vernal, Richard Brown, Brendan Kane, and Janet Watson lead a conversation about the graduate study of history at UConn.

3:00 - 4:30pm - Graduate Director and faculty open office hours, Talk informally with current grad students – Grad Lounge, get information about grad student life at UConn, Free time

4:30 - 5:45pm - Reception, Wood Hall lounge. Meet more graduate students, faculty, and the graduate secretary Dee Gosline

6:00 - 7:15pm - Spike Lee, filmmaker, cultural critic: "The Legacies of the Harlem Renaissance." Keynote address for The Harlem Renaissance Revisited conference, Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts (please RSVP for this, so we can arrange the tickets)

7:30pm - Caravan together to dinner at Chang’s restaurant next to campus (make sure you RSVP so we’ll have room for everyone).
